IN TOWN AND OUT

NEWS OF THE DAY Condition The Same. At an early hour this morning the Southland Hospital authorities reported that the condition of Miss Shelagh Wilson who received a severe fracture of the’skull as the result of an accident on Friday, was just the same. • * * * Excursion From Dunedin.

About 650 people visited Invercargill yesterday on the excursion conducted by the Railway Department. Two trains, one carrying 350 passengers and the other 300, arrived during the morning and left to schedule time early in tlie evening. Varied pursuits were undertaken by the excursionists, who were favoured by a fine afternoon. • * * * Visit Of English Lady Cricketers.

Whether or not the English lady cricketers will visit Invercargill and play a match with the Southland representatives in the near future is a matter which is giving the Southland Ladies Association no little concern at, the moment. Last week the Ladies Association received advice from the New Zealand Council that Southland had been allotted a match with the visitors, who would arrive in Invercargill on Monday, February 11, and play here on Tuesday, February 12. A condition o fthe allotment, however, was that the English ladies would remain the guests of the Southland Association until Friday, February 15, and that they would be taken to Eglmton Valley and the lakes on the Wednesday and Thursday. This was considered by the local executive, but owing to lack of finance, it was decided to reply that the proposal could not be entertained. Southland were prepared, however, to accent that match on the 12th and entertain the visitors during their stay in Invercargill from the Monday till flie Wednesday. This decision has been communicated to the New Zealand Council and the reply is awaited. It is understood that if the council agrees to Southland’s suggestion, the Mens Association will be waited upon for assistance in conducting the fixture.
