SLIGHT INCREASE

ENGLAND’S BIRTH RATE.

(British Official Wireless.) Rugby, January 24. A slight increase in the birth rate for England and Wales, the first to occur for several years, is shown in the returns for 1934, which were issued today. These show that .per 1000 of population, the births were 14.8, deaths 11.8, and infant mortality 5.9. The birth fate was an increase of 0.4 above the 1933 figures, which were the low record. The death rate was 0.5 below that for 1933 and only 0.4 above that for 1930, which is the lowest recorded. The infant mortality rate is five per 1000 below that for 1933 and is also the lowest recorded, the previous lowest being that for 1930, namely 6.
