FERNDALE PICNIC.

(From Our Correspondent.)

Despite the unfavourable weather experienced in the early part of the week an ideal afternoon favoured the annual Ferndale District Picnic on Wednesday. As was the case last year, the function was held in a centrally situated paddock belonging to Mr John G. Scott and this proved an ideal place for such an event. An energetic committee with Mr W. Dickie as chairman and Mr W. Scott as secretary had made ample provision for complete arrangements for the enjoyment of those present and the long programme of games and sports events was got off without undue delay. The attendance was regarded as excellent and was representative of local residents and visitors from Mataura and surrounding districts. The customary dance was held in the schoolroom at night and proved to be one of the most successful social functions held in that locality for some time past.
