At St. John’s, Newfoundland, a woman was taken to hospital recently suffering great pain after eating a slice of toast for breakfast. An X-ray examination revealed that she had swallowed seven pins. Many other pins were found in the loaf from which the slice was cut. Brides can be bought in Cyprus at prices ranging from £2O to £lOO. The girls are the daughters of Turkish parents, who sell them to the highest bidders. The buyers are mainly Arabs from Palestine, who, attracted by the fame of the girls’ beauty, come to the island to find brides.
