OFFERED AT AUCTION. E FIVE LOTS SOLD. The Castlerock estate, situated near Lumsden, was offered at auction yesterday morning by Wright, Stephenson and Co. acting on behalf of the trustees of the estate of the late Thomas Lowther Barnhill. The estate was subdivided into eight lots and the sale attracted a large attendance. Only two lots were sold under the hammer, but three more were disposed of immediately after the sale by private treaty. Lots 3, 5 and 7 are still unsold, but there is a good deal of inquiry and they are likely to be disposed of within the next few days. The lots sold by auction were as follows) — ... r. Lot I—73oac 3rds 26pls, being the old homestead block, subdivided into 9 paddocks, partly on hill and partly on flat. Buildings consist of original dwelling and outbuildings, extensive garden and grounds, good plantations. Connected by telephone and electric power. The purchaser was Miss B. Adamson at £5 per acre. Lot 4—592 ac Ird 33pls. Portion heavy swamp, running out to light sharp land; subdivided into three paddocks; adjoining Invercargill-Mossbum railway and road, with good plantation along west boundary; all ploughable. Would make very desirable farm. No buildings. Well watered. Messrs Chartres Brothers, at £3 15/- an acre, were the purchasers. . By private treaty the following lots were disposed of: Lot 2—1561 ac 3rds 21pls. Homestead block, subdivided into 20 paddocks, all flat land, a portion, of which adjoins the New River and is heavy rich land. The whole area has been cultivated and top-dressed and is in excellent heart. Buildings consist of new and commodious dwelling, woolshed, stable, implement shed, men’s hut and cookhouse, large bam, etc., also sheep dip and sheep and cattle yards. Telephone and electric power. Several very serviceable plantations and watered by running streams. Purchased by Mr F. W. Thomas, of Lumsden. Lot 6—2369 ac 2rds 04pls. Top end of North Range and flat in one block; ring fenced and part netted. This block lies nicely to the sun; the hill portion is very healthy with a nice slope to the flat, part of which is swamp, watered by running stream, balance of flat light, sharp land. Adjoins Main road and railway between Murray Creek and Mossburn railway sidings. No buildings. This lot was purchased by Mr W. H. Ward, of Lumsden. Lot 8—2536 ac Ird 03pls. Pig Range block; one large tussock block, ring fenced, part netted. Two paddocks, adjoining Main road; well watered. No buildings. This is one of the best blocks of tussock land in Southland and a very desirable property, close to Josephville railway siding. This lot was also purchased by Mr F. W. Thomas.
