BRIGHT PROSPECTS

AUSTRALIAN BUTTER PRODUCERS.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, January 24. Mr W. Hindmarsh, the chairman, addressing the annual meeting of the Producers’ Co-operative Distributing Society, said the society in 1934 had sold more than 50 per cent, of its butter overseas. The total quantity handled was 1,068,000 boxes. The local price, 140/-, and the English price, 82/-, gave them a fair return. The prospects generally ahead of the butter producers were bright. He hoped that if Britain insisted on any restriction it should be confined to margarine, thousands of tons of which were consumed in Britain. He also hoped the Commonwealth Government would prohibit the shipment of secondary butter.
