IN TOWN AND OUT

NEWS OF THE DAY Takings at National Flower Show. The gross takings at the National Flower Show held in Dunedin on Tuesday and Wednesday amounted to the very satisfactory sum of £423 18/6. This figure will give a large profit for the fixture. s Southland Exhibit at Flower Show. The Southland exhibit which made such a splendid showing at the National Flower Show, securing second place, on Tuesday and Wednesday, was dismantled yesterday and was railed from Dunedin at 8.30 o’clock last evening.

A Good Line. A farmer in the Woodlands district who runs a small flock of sheep as well as a dairy herd got 82 fat lambs out of 100 to the works. They averaged 451bs and returned 24/6 to the grower. The fact that on most farms the lambs are averaging a few pounds lighter this season makes this draft all the more exceptional.—Woodlands correspondent.

Gore Boy’s Feat. A remarkable achievement was accomplished by a Gore boy, Harry Holmes, son of Mr H. A. Holmes, proprietor of the Regent Theatre, Gore, who cycled from Gore to Christchurch and back during the school holidays. Only twelve years of age, this lad set out bravely on a Thursday morning and reached Christchurch, a feat that would be envied by many more experienced cyclists. After spending a short vacation with relatives there, he commenced the return journey and reached home safely. Considering the amount of traffic on the road during the holiday period the safe completion of so long a trip was a very creditable performance.
