“ACTS OF SACRILEGE”

PREVENTION OF PRODUCTION.

BISHOPS’ STRIKING DECLARATION.

(United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) London, January 22. “Wilful destruction of the fruits of the earth and the prevention or restriction of production in the face of need are virtually acts of sacrilege because God’s gifts are flung back in His face.” This striking declaration appeared in a report on unemployment, drawn up by the Bishop of London and seven other Bishops. The report is being presented to the spring session of the Church Assembly on February 5 at which the Bishop of London will move a resolution, condemning the existing financial, industrial and economic system and demanding that it be replaced by a system more adequately expressing moral and religious principles. The report, which is expected to create a stir in Church and political circles, also declares that the Church cannot acquiesce in economic arrangements which cause penury and destitution to multitudes.
