GORE BRASS BAND

APPEAL FOR CONTEST FUNDS A SUCCESSFUL GALA. With the object of raising funds to assist the band to attend the Dominion Band Contest at Timaru, the Gore Brass Band yesterday held a gala at Hockey Park in dull but fine weather. The function was well organized and attended by a considerable number of supporters of the band. It is anticipated that the financial results will prove satisfactory. In the early afternoon a procession was assembled in Main street and, with the brass and pipe bands in attendance, marched to the grounds. The procession included decorated vehicles and children in fancy dress and with pets. At the park a number of stalls had been erected and the supporters were entertained with games, the judging of the decorated costumes and vehicles and a baby show in which there were numerous entries. Children’s races were provided throughout the afternoon. . ■i The presence of the brass and pipe bands on the ground added to the enjoyment of patrons and a bright and energetic, concert party organized by Messrs H. H. Brown and Green gave a splendid programme. In the evening there was again a good attendance and business at the stalls was brisk.
