BRITISH SUCCESS
TENDERS FOR ARAPUNI EXTENSIONS.
ADDITIONAL GENERATING UNITS.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, January 21.
The successful tenders for the supply of additional generating units in connection with the extension at the Arapuni power plant were announced to-day by the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener). The generators are to be supplied by the Metropolitan Vickers Company, England, and the turbines by Boving and Company, London. A small portion of the latter machinery is to be made in Sweden. The Minister stated that tenders were received from England, America, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Czechoslovakia. The usual practice of extending a certain amount of preference for materials of British manufacture was adopted. The present plant consists of four units, each 15,000 kilowatts in capacity. The two machines now to be installed will be each 21,000 kilowatts in capacity.
