[United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.)

Sydney, January 21. A message from Salamoa says that District Officer Melrose has returned to Salamoa from Mount Hagen bringing Brother Eugene, who was reported, to have been killed by natives. Brother Eugene was seriously wounded, having been speared in a lung.

A previous message stated: A district officer and detachments of native constabulary who are searching for the murderers of Father Mossheiser and Brother Eugene are waiting for reinforcements. This information was brought by Pilot O’Dea, who said he saw a large warlike body of natives apparently waiting to attack the police.
