Despondent because he learned that his wife had obtained a divorce, Regis Rondeau, a model prisoner in the gaol at Puydedome became desperate when the custody of his children was awarded to the wife instead of his mother as he had hoped, and he ended his seven years’ sentence by plunging, head first, into a copper in which 40 gallons of skilly was boiling for the convicts’ dinner.
