COSTS TOO HIGH

FOX-HUNTING IN ENGLAND.

MASTERS RESIGNING.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, January 20. The high cost of fox-hunting is believed to be responsible for the large number of resignations of Hunt Masters. Mr Reginald Wright and Lord Inchcape are resigning the joint Mastership of the Southatherstone Hunt. Mr Wright told the Daily Express that it costs £3OOO daily to hunt with some of the bigger packs, which, if out thrice weekly, means an expenditure of £6OOO. Generally the Master receives a guarantee of a certain sum from subscribers,' but in some of the ‘smarter’ hunts, like the Femie; there is no guarantee, consequently the cost falls largely upon the Masters, who bear most of the cost in taking down the wire, repairing the fences and meeting poultry farmers’ claims.”
