“VICTORY.”
“Victory” (1706) the property of Donald Macdonald Esq., Edendale, was bred by 'Thomsons Ltd., Wairongoa. His sire is “Dunure Fabric” G.V.L.C. (17864) and his dam “Moreen” G.V.L.C. (33807) by “Oyama.” His second dam is “Drymen Bess” by “Wansbeck,” third dam “Drymen Nannie” by “Prince William,” fourth dam “Nannie Buchanan” by “Lord Ailsa,” fifth dam “Buckly Nannie” by “Fanner’s Boy.” In 1922, “Victory” was supreme champion at the Otago Stallion Parade and won the 50 guinea cup. As will be seen “Victory” is bred on the most approved lines, the sires and dams mentioned being outstanding in their generation. “Victory” has proved himself a phenomenal breeding sire. The following are some of the prices secured at the “Wairongoa” sale on 11th October, 1934. Sired by “Victory”— “Brilliant Belle,” 170 guineas; “Baroness Brilliant,” 165 guineas; “Brilliant Bangle” by “Brilliant Shine” out of “Baroness Brilliant” by “Victory,” 67 guineas; a four-year-old mare unnamed, 86 guineas; and a two-year-old filly unnamed, 75 guineas. It is worthy of note that to a large extent Mr Macdonald has taken a hand in establishing the breed in his district and his importations including Royal Knight, Bancor, Sir Thornley, British Time, Dunure Coral, Scotland’s Stamp, and two fine mares by Apukua and by Everlasting, have done much to increase its popularity in Southland.
