PRINCE OF WALES
LUNCH WITH UNEMPLOYED. DURHAM CENTRES VISITED. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, December 6. The Prince of Wales to-day made an extended tour of the unemployed welfare centres in Durham and the neighbourhood. The Prince’s lunch consisted of cold pie, bread, cheese and tea which were eaten with the unemployed. He motored 120 miles and often waded in mud inspecting the social service centres. The Prince frequently urged that the scope of the centres should be widened to enable the employment of skilled craftsmen. He expressed the opinion that the district could replace the old industries, and added that all should struggle on to that end.
