Wedding

NOAKES-GORDON. A wedding of considerable interest both in Auckland and Southland took place in St. Mary’s Church, Riverton, last Wednesday evening when Winifred Sutherland, second daughter of Dr and Mrs C. Huntly Gordon, Riverton, was married to Bertram de Berri, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Bertram Noakes, Epsom, Auckland. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. N. Luker. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father wore a frock of cream windswept silk velvet cut with a square neck and long tight sleeves. The slim fitting skirt fell in graceful folds to the ground to form a long train. Her beautiful tulle veil, which had previously been worn by her mother and her aunts, was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom and fell softly over her face. She wore cream velvet shoes and carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaids in attendance were the Misses Leslie and Jeanne Gordon who were attired in sheath frocks of parchment angel lace over parchment satin. The frocks, which had long tight sleeves and slightly cowled necklines, had small trains and were finished at the waist-line with large bustle bows of parchment satin lined .with rose pink satin. They carried lovely sheafs of pink roses and their dainty ensembles were finished with haloes of silver and pink and parchment shoes. Mr G. L. O’Halloran (Christchurch) was best man and Mr P. Gilchrist (Invercargill) groomsman.

The bride’s mother wore a smart model of beige coloured lace with a deep hem line of nigger brown ripple silk which was repeated in the short cape which fell from her shoulders. She wore a picture hat of nigger bankok straw trimmed with soft beige velvet ribbon, brown satin shoes and carried a sheaf of deep pink roses. Miss Nancy Noakes (Auckland), sister of the bridegroom, wore.a charming frock of figured moss crepe with smart black hat. Mrs A. D. Sutherland (Dimedin), aunt of the bride, wore black and silver. Miss Gordon (Dunedin), aunt of the bride, wore a black crene model with a black coat with white fox trimmint's and black hat. -

After the ceremony about forty guests assembled at the home of the bride’s parents where the wedding breakfast was held.

When the young couple later left by car for their honeymoon the bride wore a French model of Lido blue morocain made in the new jumper style with a blue straw hat to tone. A white fox fur and python skin shoes completed a smart ensemble. The future home of Mr and Mrs B.' Noakes (junior) will be Hamilton.
