Your Old Raincoat
What To Do With It. It is foolish to discard an old raincoat when there are so many handy uses to which you can put it. A waterproof tennis racquet cover can be made by stitching two pieces of old mackintosh material together about threequarters of an inch wider than the racquet head, and three inches longer. Draw it up with a shoe lace run through a tape facing. What better laundry apron could you desire than one made from an old mackintosh? Turn it back to front, so that the rubber side is out; remove the pockets; cut off the sleeves; make a V-neck. Wear it back to front (to button at the back). ’ You can make a handy picnic or travelling cushion cover by cutting out the best parts from the front and back of an old mackintosh to make a square or oblong cushion case. Stitch round three sides, fastening the fourth with a zip fastener. To this side also attach handles of the same material.
It is a good idea to always retain a piece of old mackintosh for use as a patch under a new mackintosh that may happen to catch in a nail or otherwise be tom. Apply the old patch under the new mackintosh where necessary, using rubber solution as an adhesive.
