FIRE IN ARMOURY. INCENDIARISM ALLEGED. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, November 8. A report furnished to the police indicated that an attempt was made to burn down the armoury at the Christchurch Boys’ High School early yesterday morning. Shortly before six o’clock the groundsman, when going to collect the horses, passed the corner of the armoury, which is a wooden shed. At that time there was no sign of fire, but when he returned a quarter of an hour later smoke was issuing from the armoury, in which are stored 500 rifles, valued at several thousand pounds. The groundsman and the caretaker, with the aid of a hose, were able to subdue the flames, which were breaking through the floor in three places. Colour is lent to the theory that someone tried to burn down the building by the presence under the floor of piled up heaps of burning debris.
