WOMEN’S DIVISION. (From Our Correspondent.) The birthday party of the Waikoikoi Women’s Division was held in the Koi Hall on Friday evening. After the singing of the National Anthem, the president welcomed all, _ and hoped they would enjoy the evening. A good programme was then submitted, visiting performers being Mrs A. Waddell (Waikaka Valley), Mrs Hewat (Merino Downs), Mr Watson (Wendon Valley), Mr Donaldson (Greenvale), Mr P. Hoffman, Mrs G. McPhail (Waikaka Valley). Little Shona McPhail, a little girl of eight, sany very sweetly, and was heartily encored. The dialogues were acted, and the local hits and jokes by the ’Koi boys (clown and nigger), caused much merriment. The sketches ana recitations given by Mrs Waddell, and the singing of Mrs Stewart and Mr Watson were much appreciated, encores being insisted on each time. A novelty was the presence of two pipers, whose martial selections were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The parade of brides dressed in bridal robes dating from the present day, to four, eight, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, forty-five, and sixty years ago, particularly interested the ladies in the hall, and was a pretty sight. The “Three Old Maids of Lee” in costume was well sung and acted. At the conclusion of the programme, Mrs J. Robertson, on behalf of the local Women’s Division, presented to the Koi Hall Committee a new stage curtain for use in the hall. Mr David McCall for the committee, returned thanks to the Women’s Division for their useful gift. The hall has been recently renovated, and brought up-to-date, and the committee appreciated very much the assistance of the Women’s Division. The following comprised the programme:—Pianoforte duet: Misses S. Simmers and M. Spittle; Women’s Division Song, Women’s Division members; recitation, W. McKenzie; song, Women’s Division girls; humorous sketch, Mrs Waddell; song, Shona McPhail; dialogue, Misses E. McKenzie, Hodgkinson and Colin McKenzie; song, Mrs Stewart; song, Misses R. and J. McCall, S. Simmers; humorous interludes, Alwyn and Raymond McKenzie; song, Mr Watson; bagpipe selection, Mr Donaldson; playette, Misses J. McCall, M. Spittle; pianoforte selection, Miss S. Simmers; song, Mrs Stewart; wedding dress parade, Women’s Division girls; recitation, Mrs Waddell; song, Women’s Division girls; bagpipe selection, Mr P. Hoffman; song, Mr Watson; playette, Misses M. McCall, A. and S. Simmers, R. McCall, H. Bruce. The beautifully iced birthday cake, with four candles, was carried in by Mrs A. Gray and Mrs W. J. Spittle, preceded by a piper playing a stirring march. The candles were lighted by Mrs Crump, president Kelso Women’s Division, blown out by Mrs H. Smith, president, Waikaka Valley, and the cake cut by Mrs Dickie, president Gore Women’s Division, who all conveyed greetings and congratulations from their branches to the Koi Women’s Division. . Mrs James Robertson called for a hearty vote of thanks to Miss Elsie McKenzie, who made and iced the cake, which was heartily carried, and all then received a piece of cake. Supper was served, after which the president moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, accompanistes (Mrs T. McPhail and Mrs J. Spittle) and to all who had assisted in making the social such a success. The hall was then cleared for dancing to music supplied by Mrs J. Spittle and Mr D. Wirk. Mr W. L. G. McKenzie was M.C.
