ROYAL VISITOR

PROGRAMME AT GORE.

Details of the proposed programme for the visit to Gore on January 12 of the Duke of Gloucester were submitted to the Gore Borough Council at its meeting last evening. The programme provides that the dais shall be erected within the narrow reserve between the railway station and post office fronting Main street, a distance of about 50 yards from the railway station. Councillors and their wives will be assembled on the dais. School children will be assembled to line the route of the Royal visitor’s progress from the station to the dais. The Duke will be received at the station, where the Gore Pipe Band will be stationed, by the Mayor and Town Clerk, and will proceed across to the west side of the street and after turning north for a short distance will proceed to the dais. The area to be encircled by the Duke’s route will be occupied by returned soldiers, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Brownies. The public will be accommodated outside this area and principally to the north of the dais. On arrival of the Duke at the dais six bars of the National Anthem will be played, after which the address of welcome will be read and presented by the Mayor. Councillors and their wives will then be presented to the Royal visitor. It is estimated that these items will occupy the greater part of the short time allowed for the visit to Gore, after which his Royal Highness will return to the station accompanied by the Mayor and the Town Clerk via the east side of Main street. The National Anthem will be played again on his departure. It is estimated that 1200 school children will be assembled and that 200 returned soldiers will be on parade in addition to numbers of Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Brownies.

The programme was approved by the council.
