Mr J. Inglis Wright, of Dunedin, arrived by the mail train yesterday. Mr Morris Wilson, manager of the Southland boxing team at the New Zealand championships at Hastings, returned to Invercargill by last evening’s express.

Mr George Lemin, the well-known Grange Club bowler and ex-Otago Plunket Shield cricketer, has been transferred to Invercargill from Dunedin and leaves to take up his new appointment next Monday. Messrs G. McNamara (DirectorGeneral of the Post and Telegraph Department) and S. Ogilvie (of the Inspection Division) left by car for Dunedin yesterday morning after a visit to Invercargill on departmental business. Messrs D. J. Wesney (president), A. E. Wish and J. S. Dick (secretary) of the Automobile Association (Southland), leave by this morning’s express for Christchurch to attend the annual meeting of the South Island Motor Union to be held to-morrow. Dr. J. R. Ritchie, medical officer of health who has been stationed at Dunedin for the past four years, has been transferred to Wellington and Mr F. R. Webster, district clerk in the Health Department for the past eight years, has been transferred to Auckland.— Press Association message. A Press Association message from Ottawa states that Mr Arthur Meighen, Government Leader in the Senate, will attend the centenary celebrations in Melbourne, representing the Empire Parliamentary Association and the Canadian Government. He will sail from Vancouver on October 20.

Dr. J. R. Elder, professor of history at Otago University, has resumed his duties after an extended visit to the Old Country. Dr. Elder left Dunedin last February to undergo medical treatment at Home, and while there he visited London, Carlisle, and Aberdeen. He also made a short stay at Suva on the return voyage.

The death is announced of Mr Alfred Osborne Leach, Secretary of the War Relief Association, Wellington, states a Tress Association message, He served with the Imperial Forces in the South African war and held commissioned rank. Mr Leach has been secretary of the Wellington War Relief Association for the past 18 years. He was associated with a number of patriotic movements and schemes for the assistance of returned men. He is survived by his widow.
