RATES STRUCK
SOUTHLAND COUNTY COUNCIL. The rates for the ensuing year were struck at the monthly meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday. The following are the rates on the unimproved value, for the various ridings:— Waihopai.—One penny and one third in the £. Awarua. —One penny and one half in the £. Wallacetown.—One penny and twofifths in the £. Winton.—One penny in the £. Oreti. One penny and one-eighth in the £. Hokonui.—One penny and three twentieths in the £. Waikaia—One penny and ninetwentieths in the £. Mataura.—One penny in the £. Toetoes.—One penny and a-half in the £. A hospital and charitable aid rate of one-fifth of a penny in the £ on the capital value was also struck. The timber rate was fixed at onehalf of a penny per 100 ft board measure on timber cut from standing trees and converted from the log into sawn timber.
