A GRAVE CHARGE
ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO INFLUENCE WITNESS. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, June 8. Arising from the Judge’s statement yesterday that a Crown witness had been approached by a certain person and asked to modify his evidence at the second trial of J. A. Asher, hotelkeeper of Tokaanu, who is charged with false pretences, Eric Troutbeck Hutton, of Tokaanu, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Hamilton to-day before Justices of the Peace, and was remanded to appear to-morrow, bail in lhe sum of £lOO being fixed. Hutton is charged that on June 6 he wilfully attempted to defeat the course of justice by asking a witness for the Crown to alter his evidence to assist Asher’s case.
