NEWS OF THE DAY Donation to League. The Southland County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday decided to donate £25 to the funds of the Southland League. ( Illness in City. Advice was received yesterday that Mr Douglas Weir, of Ryal Bush, who was injured when his car collided with a train at the Elies road crossing on Friday night, June 1, was removed to Park Hospital yesterday. His injuries proved more serious than at first anticipated and generally .his condition is critical.

Cheese Sales. Further cheese sales are announced, this time at an advance of a farthing on those made last week. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having purchased the unshipped end-of-season make of the Otautau and Drummond factories at 5 5-16 d a pound.
