“Such stock as I have seen in the South Island, especially the Border Leicester, Romney Marsh, and Southdown sheep, and the Friesian cattle, are of high quality and of a type that should prove attractive to Australian buyers,” said Mr Grimm, a member of the farmers’ party, to a Waikato Times representative before returning to Australia. “The southern part of New Zealand has always been noted for its fine draught horses, but it was not till I saw the magnificent types on one or two of the farms visited that I realized how well merited the praise given to New Zealand-bred draught horses had been.”
