LEAP INTO RIVER
POLICE INVESTIGATING MAN’S ACTION. IDENTITY NOT KNOWN. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, April 11. The police were investigating to-day v/ith a view to establishing the identity of a man seen to jump from the parapet of the Waimakariri bridge on the North Read on Monday evening, but so far without result. About 6.30 p.m. on Monday a man leapt into the river from the bridge. He was assisted out of the water by a fisherman after he had been carried some distance downstream. Then at nine o’clock the same evening a motorist saw a young man make a similar dive. The identity in both cases is unknown, but the police believe that the actions were probably those of one man.
