WORKSHOP THEATRE

FIRST PLAY OF SEASON. Next week the Workshop Theatre will open its 1934 season with a presentation of John Van Druten’s comedy “There’s Always Juliet.” This bright, clever play was a brilliant success in London, and it has been chosen as an example of modern comedy, in which contemporary manners and ideas are used in the development of a delightful love story, told by only four characters. The play deals with the romance of a young English woman and an American who meet unconventionally and narrowly miss losing each other because the woman is afraid to take hold of the “excitement” she has been seeking. The play affords an excellent illustration of the author’s skill in naturalistic dialogue, and of his clever use of slender material. It is amusing but it also contains some scenes of singular beauty. The season will be for three nights, beginning on Tuesday, at the Orphans’ Hall, Earnslaw street.
