LATE MR J. C. THOMSON
LOCAL BODIES’ TRIBUTES.
At the monthly meeting of the Southland Electric Power Board yesterday morning, the chairman (Mr W. Hinchey) referred to the death of Mr J. C. Thompson, who, he said, was associated with the public and local body life of Southland and New Zealand over a long period of years. Mr Thompson had been a very active man in the interests of the affairs of Southland generally and his passing would be universally felt. His ability was recognized throughout the Dominion and it was rather unfortunate that they had lost him at a comparatively early age for a public man. His had been of very useful service to the State. Regret was expressed at his passing and a motion of condolence carried in the usual manner. Reference to the death of Mi’ Thomson was made at the monthly meeting of the Gore High School Board yesterday. Mr Hugh Smith said that Mr Thomson had always taken a great interest in education in Southland and had been Southland’s representative on the council of the University of Otago. He had the welfare of the province at heart and had made it his business to see that Southland received its full share of educational facilities. A motion of respect was carried in the usual manner and it was decided to place on record the board’s appreciation of Ml Thomson’s services to education.
