OBITUARY

THE REV. ANGUS MACDONALD. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, April 10. The death has occurred of the Rev. Angus Macdonald, aged 63, a man of vigorous personality, and wide, sympathies. He was honoured for his services within and without the sphere of the Presbyterian Church and was held in high regard by hosts of ex-soldiers throughout New Zealand, with whom he served as a chaplain in the Great War, where he achieved distinction. Mr Macdonald was born on the Isle of Lewis. As a young man he served for 10 years in the Indian Army, where he saw much frontier campaigning. He then entered the Presbyterian Church, going to Canada as a missionary. Subsequently he came to New Zealand, being stationed at Pokeno, Waipu, Avondale, New Lynn and Richmond. He became senior chaplain during the war with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He was mentioned in despatches and received the Order of the British Empire. Recently he had been Presbyterian hospital chaplain in Auckland.
