POULTRY CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. SHOW DISCUSSED. On Saturday evening a large attendance of members of the Invercargill Poultry, Pigeon, Canary and Pets Club met at Mill’s rooms in Esk street. The club’s new president, Mr A. Smith, occupied the chair. The major portion of the time was occupied with matters concerning the club’s forthcoming annual show, which is to be held on May 10, and 11 in the De Luxe Skating Rink, Dee Street. It was stated that this recently remodelled building, with its modern lighting and decoration, offered plenty of scope for displaying the numerous interesting classes of poultry, pigeons, pets canaries and budgerigars (commonly known as love-birds). Including this latter class in the schedule was a new venture on the club’s part, and as very keen competition was expected a capable judge had been appointed. A further forward, move which would stimulate entries in the canary section (excluding rollers) was the club’s offer of a handsome cup to be won three times or twice in succession. Youthful fanciers would in future be especially encouraged; all boys or girls under 18 years of age could now become members for 2/6, which entitled them to enter their birds or pets at a reduced rate.

The secretary, Mr D. Holloway, reported that special prizes were coming in freely and would probably exceed the number offered at previous shows. It was anticipated by the club’s executives that the entries would be considerably in excess of those received last year. Fanciers and the public were assured of a most interesting and educational show in ideal surroundings next month.
