The Union Company's intercolonial steamer Wainui reached Bluff from Melbourne yesterday morning with Australian mails and cargo. She completed working and sailed for Dunedin in the late afternoon. The same company’s steamer Kekerangu, which arrived on Sunday from Hobart, finished her Southland discharge yesterday and sailed in the evening for Dunedin. No shipping is expected to arrive at Bluff to-day, but to-morrow two Union Company vessels are due. the Waikouaiti and the Karepo. from Sydney and Wellington respectively. The Union Company’s Waimarino sailed from Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday for Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Bluff on Thursday, sailing on Thursdayevening for Dunedin. The Waikouaiti sailed from Sydney at 5 p.m on Friday for Bluff direct. She is due here to-morrow afternoon, sailing the same evening for Dunedin. The Wingatui. now at Auckland, sails on Friday afternoon for Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Bluff on Friday, sailing the same day for Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland. The Kiwitea loads at Westport on Thursday for Lyttelton, Oarnaru, Dunedin and Bluff, landing 500 tons of coal at the lastmentioned port. She is due at Bluff on the 21st, sailing again for Westport the same day. The Union Company's Karepo sailed from Wellington at 4 p.m. yesterday for Bluff direct, being due here to-morrow afternoon. She sails on Thursday morning for Westport. In continuation of her voyage from Wellington to London, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Mamari is reported to have cleared Kingston, Jamaica, on March 31. She was despatched from Wellington on .March 3. The Federal Line steamer Surrey left Opua on March 31 for New Plymouth, Wellington. Port Chalmers, and Bluff to complete loading. She is to leave Bluff on April 17 for London, Avonmouth, Cardiff, Liverpool, and Glasgow. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Sydney is reported to have left Newcastle-on-Tyne on March 31 in ballast for New Zealand via the Cape of Good Hope. She is due in New Zealand about May 15 to load Homewards. From time to time representations have been made in favour of the marking of other passages through Barrier Reef, and advocating the establishment of navigational markings on the Myrmidon Reef, as well as those opposite Townsville. The secretary of the Marine Branch (Mr Lewis F. East), in a letter to the Townsville Chamber of Commerce, states that the Minister had directed that the matter should be referred to the Lighthouse Advisory Committee, and that in the opinion of that committee the volume of traffic through any of the passages was insufficient to warrant the placing of additional aids to navigation, and that no action would be taken at present.
