STOWAWAY IN COURT
UNUSUAL PLEA ENTERED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, April 6. Frederick Hopkins was remanded for a week on a charge of stowing away on the Moldavia at Fremantle. He pleaded: “It was a son’s love for his mother that made me do it. It was the only way of reaching mother, who was sick.” The prosecution said that it had been intended to put Hopkins ashore at Colombo, but that he had disappeared and had left a note in his cabin suggesting that he had committed suicide, but had been seen walking on the deck at Port Said.
