OBITUARY
MR WALTER MARTIN. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, April 6. The death occurred at Christchurch to-day of Mr Walter Martin, aged 80, one of the early settlers of Canterbury. He arrived in New Zealand in 1860 and was employed for many years in the Department of Justice until he retired on account of ill-health. For seven years he was Clerk of the District Court and Registrar of the High Court of Western Samoa. Since relinquishing these positions about 1925 he lived in Sydney, and Christchurch. BRIGADIER J. E. NEWBOLD. LONG SERVICE IN SALVATION ARMY. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, April 6. The death occurred suddenly to-day of Brigadier Johty Edwin Newbold. A member’ of the Salvation Army for 40 or 50 years, he is well known, having served in many parts of New Zealand and Australia.
