The Britannia arrived from Stewart Island at 10.30 a.m. yesterday with cased fish and sailed again, leaving Bluff with general cargo for the Island at 3 p.m. The Union Company’s freighter Kartigi arrived at Bluff from Adelaide yesterday morning with cargo from Australia. On completion of discharge she sailed early in the afternoon for northern ports, via Dunedin. The Union Company’s coastal steamer. Waipiata, from Dunedin, berthed at Bluff a little after 1 p.m. yesterday. She is discharging and loading general caigo and is expected to complete and sail about mid-day to-day to return to the north, via Dunedin. The Wainui sailed from Melbourne at 11 p.m. on Wednesday. She is due here on Monday morning, sailing again in the afternoon for Dunedin. The local agents ot the Union Steam Ship Company advise that the Karepo leaves Wellington on Monday for Bluff direct. She is due on Wednesday, sailing the following day for Westport, Greymouth, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Union Company’s Poolta leaves Wellington next Friday for Bluff. She is due here on Sunday, April 15, sailing the next day for Wellington, Napier and Gisborne via ports. The ‘New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua was due at Auckland on Thursday from Liverpool with passengers, mails and cargo. She will discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. The Nobel auxiliary schooner Huia left Melbourne on Tuesday of last week with a cargo of explosives for Westport, Greymouth, Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland. She was expected at Westport on Thursday. After completion of discharge the vessel will load at Auckland for Melbourne. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Ruahine, which left Wellington for London on March 10, reached Panama on April 1, and sailed from Colon on April 2. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. report that the Canadian Highlander is due at Dunedin on April 20 from Montreal via Brisbane and Melbourne. She is to sail on the following day for Lyttelton, thence New York, Boston and Montreal. It is stated by Captain Ragnar Snobohm, Pacific Coast representative of the Johnson Line, operating a service between North Pacific ports and Gothenburg via the United Kingdom, that eight new refrigerated vessels may be built for this service to replace the six now in operation. Bids have been asked for four of the proposed vessels from Swedish and foreign shipyards, with options on four more of the same type. They are to be 400 ft long, 9000 tons dead-weight, with a speed of sixteen knots. They are to have accommodation for twenty-five first-class passengers, and 100,000 cubic feet of refrigerated space, or twice the amount of the present ships. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
