Mrs Elizabeth Nisot, author of "Shortly Before Midnight,” is a daughter of Mr Joseph Hocking, the Cornish novelist. She lives at Annecy, Savoy, and has made it the scene of her story. Her husband, Dr Joseph Nisot, is an international lawyer on the staff of the Secretariat of the League of Nations, where she herself worked until her marriage.
Guy N. Pocock, whose latest novel is called "Design for a Staircase,” is co-editor with Sir Arthur QuillerCouch of that popular series, the King’s Treasuries of Literature. He has been a schoolmaster and has written three or four previous novels and several anthologies.
