RADIO ASSOCIATION

SOUTHLAND D.X. BRANCH. The fortnightly meeting of the Southland branch of the New Zealand D.X. Radio Association was held on Thursday, Mr G. L. Teychenne presiding over a good attendance of members. The secretary reported on the business transacted at the annual meeting of the New Zealand D.X. Radio Association held at Christchurch recently and stated that several remits of value to the branch had been passed. He also gave an interesting account of the recent meeting of the Dunedin and Christchurch branches and the methods adopted for running the various competitions. The headquarters of the association advises that the association was in a flourishing state and that the membership figure now stood at nearly 500. Members registered several excellent verifications during the past fortnight, some of the best being Leipsig and Heilsberg (Ger-many), WRVA, WBRC, WDBJ, WTAM, WLBC, WAPI, WDBO WBXO, XEPN, XENT, XEW, KVOO, KGGM, KTFI, KFAB, WROL, Vk’s SMD, 3BZ, 7PA, 3LN, 4PK, 2ZO, 3KW and 3FY. Considerable interest was aroused when a prominent member produced a verification from a 50-watt station in Indiana, America. The various competitions run by this branch proved very interesting the senior and junior sections resulting in a tie in each case. The progress competition also resulted in a very close contest. Members have been busy lately logging European stations and several outstanding loggings have been reported. They include Budapest (Hungary), Frankfurt and Hamburg (Germany), Rabat (Morocco), Tallinn (Estonia), Belgrade (Yugoslavia), Viipuri (Finland), Helsinki (Finland), Hilversum (Holland), Madrid (Spain) and Goteborg '(Swfeden-)-. „
