BAND CARNIVAL

EFFORT AT GORE, The bazaar which is to mark the culmination of the Gore Municipal Brass Band’s queen carnival was successfully launched at the Theatre Royal last evening when a large number of supporters of the band were present. The theatre has been tastefully decorated with coloured streamers and prominent fixtures are the stalls conducted by the committees working for the four princesses (Misses Mavis Smith, Country; Doris Hoffman, North; F. Hinchey, South; and Muriel Newman, East). The stalls have been gaily decorated with the colours of their respective candidates and when the doors were opened to the public last evening they were heavily laden with an excellent assortment of saleable goods, ranging from cookery, produce, needlework and art work. Some of the articles displayed were handsome and valuable, having been donated by supporters of the band and the various princesses. In addition other stalls representing games of skill were conducted and visitors to the bazaar were inundated with requests from fair assistants to participate in numerous competitions which were conducted to augment the funds. At nine o’clock the bazaar was officially opened by Mr David McDougall, M.P., who extended best wishes for the success of the effort. The Mayor (Mr A. T. Newman) was also present and expressed similar sentiments. The crowd was a very large one and excellent business was done during the evening.
