Whipped up by wind of gale force, the Wanganui River was in a turbulent mood on Saturday afternoon, as one scullei - found to his discomfort. When out in midstream, where the waves were bowling along in regular succession. he found that his frail craft had “sprung a leak,” and was slowly but surely sinking. Inch by inch and then foot by foot the boat began to disappear at the bow, gradually sinking from sight. Fortunately for the sculler, his predicament had been noticed from the shore, and a dinghy was sent to his assistance, arrriving in an opportune moment for him.
