MASS MURDER FAILS
(United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) Calcutta, January 8. A dramatic attempt at the mass murder of Europeans, the first since the Pahartali raid in 1932, was made at Chittagong yesterday during the last over of a cricket match. Four Hindu youths, emerging from behind the pavilion, hurled three bombs at a group of Europeans seated in front of the pavilion watching the game. One exploded, wrecking a portion of the pavilion. Miraculously there was only one casualty, the police superintendent being slightly wounded in the hand. The Europeans immediately opened fire, killing one assailant and severely wounding two, while the fourth was overpowered and arrested. He was identified as Krishna Chowdhury, who was wanted for participation in a terrorist attack on the Chittagong auxiliary force armoury. A number of other b >mbs and revolvers were recovered.
