HISTORIC VISIT
RAROTONGAN ARIKIS.
PARTICIPATION IN WAITANGI CELEBRATIONS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 6. A party of Rarotongan arikis (chiefs) will arrive in Wellington by the Makura on Monday en route to the Waitangi centenary celebrations, which will take place on February 6. The arikis will be accompanied by their wives anu a small retinue.
This will be the first visit of all of the arikis of Rarotonga to. the Dominion, and the reunion with their Maori brethren at Waitangi will add considerably to the historic interest of th<? occasion.
The Hon. F. H. Stewart, Minister of Commerce of Australia, will represent the Australian Government at the Waitangi celebrations. While Mr Stewart is in the Dominion he will take advantage of the opportunity of discussing with the New Zealand Government matters of common interest to Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Stewart will arrive in Auckland on January 26, and will leave from Wellington on February 9 on his return to Australia.
