TWO MEN FINED
BOOKMAKING CHARGES. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, January 5. Basil John Bishop and Harry Syred were fined £2O and £25 respectively to-day for bookmaking. “Counsel has referred to it as a game,” said the Magistrate, Mr Wyvern Wilson. “It is not a game. It is a crime. Bookmaking in this country is a crime.” Counsel: The Post Office officials apparently do not think so. Mr Wilson: I am not the guardian of the Post Office. I have to see that the law is enforced.
