TASMAN FLIGHT
KINGFORD SMITH’S PLANE.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, January 5.
Mr Wilfred Kingsford Smith, says that the Wackett Codock monoplane which is nearing completion at Sydney will be offically nam-id shortly. It is suggested that a series of Maori names with the prefix “Manu ’ (bird) would be suitable. In all probability the plane now being built will be named Manu Moana, meaning Bird of the Ocean.
Sir Charles recently gave some interesting information regarding the forthcoming Melbourne centenary air race from England to Australia. He says that he has scheduled himself to make the flight, barring accidents, in 3} days from England to Melbourne (not to the edge of Australia). This necessitates covering a distance of 4400 miles every 24 hours and would mean only two hours in each of 24 on the ground for fuelling.
