CYCLING

COMING EVENTS.

(By

“Pedaller.”)

January 10—Combined meeting with

Athletic Clubs. January 13—Ryal Bush Club meeting. January 20—Southland championships.

On Wednesday evening, January 10, a combined meeting has been arranged with the athletic clubs and the two cycle races on the programme will be over distances of one and three miles. Three races are included in the championship programme to be held on the 20th. Two of these, one mile and three mile races, will be championship events, while the other will be a twomile handicap. Supporters of the club will be pleased to know that two car-loads, including eight cyclists, represented the club at the Alexandra Caledonian Society’s annual sports on New Year’s Day. The gathering proved very successful and the weather excellent, and the society is to be congratulated on the way the events were controlled and the programme put through up to time. The only successful Invercargill rider was J. Flynn, who gained first place in the one-mile from scratch and second in the half-mile off the same mark.

Flynn rode exceptionally well, considering he was on the same mark as

O. G. Smith, a recent Otago and Southland champion, and headed him in every sprint. Those who visited Alexandra are warm in their praise for the way in which they were entertained, and according to accounts the local club will be well represented there again next year.
