BLUFF NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.)

Mr and Mrs T. Winn, oi Milton, are at present spending a holiday in Bluff as the guests of Mrs J. Barnes, Gore street. Mrs Winn (who was formerly Miss Edith Keinan) at one time resided at the port, where her parents were well-known residents. Messrs F. and R. Massey, who for the last year or two have been engaged in prospecting in the Queenstown district, are spending the holidays with their parents, Mr and Mrs R. Massey, sen., Athelney street. A pleasant little function took place in the bandroom recently when members of the Watersiders Band met to make presentations to Captain and Mrs R. J. Hamilton and Mr and Mrs R. Kirkwood. Mr W. K. Cameron, the president, voiced the appreciation all felt of Captain and Mrs Hamilton’s kindness in transporting the band to and from Stewart Island free of charge and of Mr and Mrs Kirkwood's generous donation of a substantial sum to the band’s funds. Such actions, Mr Cameron said, were of a public-spirited nature and were most encouraging to the band and its other suppoi-ters. The president concluded by thanking the guests for their assistance and then called on Mr W. T. Walker, the secretary, to make the presentations. In doing so the latter said that such support as that given by the guests of the evening was heartening to all concerned and the gifts were intended as mementoes of the gratitude felt by the band. Mr Walker then made the presentations as follows: Mrs Kirkwood, a set of carvers; Mrs Hamilton, afternoon teaset; Mr Kirkwood, a jug and set of glasses; Captain Hamilton, mirror and shaving set. The recipients suitably replied. The singing by bandsmen of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” brought the function to an end.
