THE HEALTH OF A NATION. (1933). SIR GEORGE NEWMAN, the great health authority, in his annual report upon the health of the British people, says:— “As an instance in which there exists legitimate suspicion that a commercial process may involve a definite risk to health or debasement of nutritive value, I may cite the introduction of the new artificial colours and flavours.” Thousands of people in New, Zealand buy and consume, and give to their children and guests, cordials and carbonated waters containing not only artificial colours and flavours, but also diges-tion-destroying and dangerous preservatives, without which the liquid would soon become unfit for human consumption. Probably more than ninety per cent of the cordials consumed in New Zealand contain one or more of the above-mentioned adulterants.
