CONVICTION QUASHED
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, December 18. The conviction entered recently against John Paton Hardy on a charge of stealing a woman’s cape was quashed by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, on the ground that the case had not been proved. The case is of interest because after being charged Hardy married the woman who previously made a statement to the police concerning the cape. As a result the police were unable to use the statement as evidence against him.
