QUEEN OF THE LINE
FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL.
Gracie Jones, a pretty 15-year-old Holyhead schoolgirl, was crowned the other day as Britain’s railway queen and enthroned on a chair used by George Stephenson when the Liverpool—Manchester railway was begun. The crowning ceremony took place at the annual railway carnival at Belle Vue Gardens, Manchester, and was performed by Captain Ivor Roberts, London Midland and Scottish marine superintendent at Holyhead. Miss Marjorie Goodall, of Scunthorpe, the retiring queen, placed round her-successor’s neck the chain of office, and presented her with a new “link of peace,” a gift from railway men in Denmark, which will be added to the official chain.
