THE DEER QUESTION.
To the Editor.
Sir, —My attention has been drawn to a letter appearing in your paper signed by Mr Guy Raymond Murrell, and in fairness to Mr Tapper I feel it my duty to corroborate the position as explained by him. I was camped with Mr Tapper on the occasion in question and he is quite correct in his statement that Mr Murrell in his capacity as guide placed Mr Schoeller on the wrong block and occupied the camping site on Mr Tapper’s block which he had used for two previous years. Further, Mr Murrell quibbles when he states that Mr Schoeller was not shooting in certain blocks for the fact that he was in the blocks with guide and rifle is prima facie evidence in law of intent. To those of us who know Mr Tapper it is unnecessary to enumerate his high qualities as a sportsman, and I resent very much the attack made on him by “Fll-itlock” (G. R. Murrell).—l am, etc., “FAIR PLAY.”
