TURKISH REPUBLIC
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. A DECADE OF PROGRESS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) Angora, October 28. The Soviet is presenting Turkey with five fighting planes, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the republic which Turkey is celebrating with three days’ holiday. The arrangements reflect a striking testimony to the reforms. Kemal Pasha will take the salute at a mammoth parade of soldiers, sailors, police, boy scouts and students on the Angora racecourse. Houses throughout the country are glowing with illuminations and a National Anthem has been specially written to extoll Kemal Pasha’s leadership. Medals bearing his head are selling at sixpence. An official summary of national progress shows that the £48,000,000 unfavourable trade balance in 1926 was converted to a £15,400,000 favourable balance in 1932. Turkey is connected with 32 countries by air mail. The numerous international guests include M. Voroshilov, the Commissar of War, who arrived escorted by Soviet cruisers. The British Government sent a congratulatory message to Kemal.
