GORGE ROAD NOTES

WOMEN’S DIVISION. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the hall on Saturday evening. Mrs 0. E. Niederer (president) occupied the chair. A motion of sympathy was passed with Miss Henderson (Provincial secretary) Mr Foster and the McCallum family in their recent bereavements. Mrs Johnston gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on her spinning wheel of the different processes required to convert raw wool into the finished article and was voted a very hearty vote of thanks for same. A dance was held in the hall in aid of funds for the Anglican Church and was well attended. Euchre was provided for the non-dancers and was won by Mrs J. Dawson and Mr P. Ryan. The music for the dance was supplied by the Melody Wreckers’ Dance band, extras being played by Mrs Donnelly sen., Mrs N. Lewis and Mr D. Carswell while the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr J. Stewart. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss R. Kevern and Mr M. Niederer, and Miss M. Stevenson contributed Scottish dances.
